I have both and still use both, but in general I use more vaser for larger volumes and smart lipo for specific finite areas. I see more skin retraction with smart lipo ,but it will not replace the need for a tummy tuck if you have a lot of extra skin and can give a worse result if that is attempted. In the right patient, both give really excellent results.
They are two very different technologies. Vaser uses ultrasonic technology to emulsify the fat. Because it generates heat during the procedure, it is thought to possibly cause skin contraction as well. Smartlipo uses laser light to emulsify the fat and also uses laser light to heat the skin to possibly tighten it as well.
This ultrasonic vibration of the fat doesn’t have residual effect on the soft tissue (blood vessels and nerves) so the likelihood of permanent damage is reduced significantly. This treatment can be done while the patient is awake or asleep and can also be done in-office or surgery center/hospital. If you are looking for more consistent sculpting and shaping, VASER is the best modality.
For almost four years, I have been combining laser fat contouring (SmartLipo) with Vaser Ultrasonic Lipo-selection, and I appreciate the consistent results. I use the SmartLipo device (a small laser fiber just below the surface of the skin) to smooth the surface fat and to tighten the skin with the heat from the laser. The Vaser Ultrasound does a thorough job of breaking up the dense fat, esp., the fibrous fat around the torso. By using each tool to its advantage, I believe the patient benefits with overall smoother results.

Smart lipo uses a fiberoptic laser to thermally emulsify fat and tighten skin, Vaser use ultrasonic energy. Vaser and Smartlipo are Different! Vaser uses sound waves to break up the fat. Smartlipo uses a tiny laser to vaporize fat and tighten skin. They have different uses so it is not that one is “better” than another. One may be better for YOU than the other but you will have to ask a doctor that does both which would work better on your body.
Cool Sculpting is also known as Freezing The Fat. This procedure is an in-office procedure that requires a few treatments (depending on the facility) and is said to remove & kill unwanted fat cells without surgery. The device is placed on the outside of the skin and is gently suctioned up into the rectangular shaped “freezer”. This application rests on the skin for approximately 45 minutes (again, depending on the machine & facility). The idea is that fat cells are frozen and create small ice crystals that puncture the cell wall, leaking out the fatty fluid.
Although general anesthesia was avoided, the results were less than ideal and patients were made to live with a lifetime of sub-par results.
